Brief Description
Malone Telegram
Full Description
Northern New York Newspapers has a unique opportunity for a Sports Editor ready to manage a five-day per week sports section in rural Northern New York.
The historic Malone Telegram has an extensive record of publishing a first-class sports section for residents of Franklin County.
The ideal candidate will be steeped in high school sports, a digital leader and ready to get in the trenches of the sports community. Self-starters with a strong sense of urgency are encouraged to apply. Strong photography skills and passion for sports a big plus. The Telegram’s sports coverage is largely based on five high schools in Northern Franklin County, and several are extremely competitive. The sports beat also includes other types of sports activities such as recreational running, fishing, hiking, a variety of winter activities and other non-scholastic sports. Malone is home to a highly rated, family-oriented downhill skiing area, a 36-hole Robert Trent Jones designed golf course and numerous ponds, streams and lakes — an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise.
The Johnson Newspaper Corporation is headquartered in Watertown, New York, and publishes daily and weekly newspapers across the state, including Northern New York, Western New York and the Hudson Valley. Its flagship publication is the highly regarded Watertown Daily Times.
The Telegram sports editor needs to be able to operate independently, but has access to a network of experienced sports journalists throughout the Johnson Newspaper Corporation for support and guidance and content.
Send all application materials, including a cover letter, resume, clips and references to Malone Telegram Editor Rich Rosentreter at rrosentreter@mtelegram.com and St. Lawrence/Franklin County Editor Tom Graser at tgraser@wdt.net
